Isn’t it wonderful that our country has established and recognizes this special holiday? It’s is one of the things that makes America special. Knowing on Thanksgiving that Americans all across this land will take the time to reflect on all the blessings God has provided is pretty remarkable.
This Thanksgiving, we will have family and friends over our home and share a wonderful dinner together. It is always a time to make precious memories with our loved ones.
So, what are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? My husband and I are thankful for each day we have with each other and having our family members close by. We are thankful that we have our health and live in a country where we can dare to dream and pursue our dreams. We are thankful that our dog, Pumpkin, is still here with us. He has struggled with health issues and each day is precious to have him with us. We are so thankful to have a grandson who just celebrated his 2nd birthday! We are thankful for every moment we get to see him and hope to watch him grow to a young man.
We feel thankful that this country established a national holiday called Thanksgiving. And though we should be thankful for every day and every blessing, Thanksgiving gives us the occasion to set

we celebrate one of our favorite
holidays - Thanksgiving. It is a wonderful American tradition that began with a now famous feast in the fall of 1621. But did you know that Thanksgiving did not become a regularly celebrated national holiday until Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a day of national Thanksgiving in 1863? And it wasn’t until an act of Congress in 1941 that the holiday became fixed to the fourth Thursday in November.
Here’s a bit of Thanksgiving history: in 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the holiday to the third Thursday of November to lengthen the Christmas shopping season. To end the confusion, Congress eventually decided to set a fixed date for the holiday. It was on October 6, 1941, that the House passed a joint resolution declaring the last Thursday in November to be the legal Thanksgiving Day. The Senate, however, amended the resolution establishing the holiday as the fourth Thursday, which would take into account those years when November has five Thursdays. The House agreed to the amendment, and President Roosevelt signed the resolution on December 26, 1941, making the fourth Thursday in November as the Federal Thanksgiving Day holiday.
